About James

James Banicki is a 72-year-old US Army Veteran. He joined the Army at the age of 18 and served in Vietnam 1967 and 1968.

While in Vietnam, at the age of 20, he was shot in the stomach and it went through his back. The bullet hit his spine and it severed a couple of his nerves. They did not want to operate back then, so he underwent therapy and “got by mostly” using braces and a cane. However, he favored one leg over the other and now can only walk a few feet using a walker.

The VA gave him a power chair that he could not use outside. He needed a 4-wheel drive chair to get around on the sandy soil and rocky terrain at his property, because he was constantly getting stuck when he try to venture out. The VA would not give him a 4-wheel drive chair because they said something like that is more for recreation.

Wheelchairs for Warriors was able to build him a custom chair. The chair is a cajun mobility all-terrain zero turn chair that James is able to use on his property without getting stuck!

James now enjoys spending time outside and going to the shooting range.
